Are you a company seeking a short-term visa solution for one of your employees in Australia? Look no further; we have the perfect solution for you.
Whether you are a foreign company part of a global group, a startup, or a mid-size corporate entity, you may need a short-term visa solution in Australia for your employee(s). Perhaps you want to send an employee for a couple of months to install a software with a client, or execute a contract. The Australian Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) Visa (Subclass 400) could be the answer.
What is the Subclass 400 Visa?
The Subclass 400 visa is designed for short-term, non-ongoing work projects in Australia, ranging from 3 to 6 months from the date of the first arrival. Unlike visitor visas (eVisitor 651 or 600 visitor visa), which do not permit work for an organisation, the Subclass 400 visa allows employees to undertake work with full rights, either for your company or a business partner in Australia, with multiple entries permitted.
Requirements and Streams
To apply, you will need a letter of invitation from a business partner in Australia or your Australian subsidiary. There are two main streams under the Subclass 400 visa:
Short-Term Specialist: This stream is suitable for employees with special skills, such as engineers or ICT project managers with proprietary knowledge of overseas technology. Examples include installers or maintainers of recently imported equipment or trainers supporting the introduction of new products/services. If the person does not have proprietary knowledge, you must demonstrate that it was impossible to find someone locally. The policy intention is for people with highly specialised skills and knowledge to undertake short-term, non-ongoing work, without undermining employment opportunities for Australians.
Australia’s Interest: This stream is for inviting people from overseas for short-term work assignments in Australia’s interest. Examples include assisting in a disaster or emergency or when Australia's business, economic, cultural, or other development would benefit significantly from the individual's contribution.
Costs and Processing
The application charge is relatively small at AUD 415, and approval is typically within one month. The employee must travel to Australia within six months of the visa grant. The main applicant can also include family members (partner and children) in the application.
Why Choose the Subclass 400 Visa?
This visa is ideal before you establish a presence in Australia or for the execution of a contract in Australia. It provides a flexible, efficient, and cost-effective solution for short-term projects and assignments, ensuring your business operations continue smoothly.
Seek Professional Assistance
We highly recommend using a migration lawyer for these visas. A strong business case and a decision-ready application can ensure smooth and fast processing.
